The Woodland Trust is the UK’s leading woodland conservation charity and, being huge fans of green spaces, we’re proud to be supporting them. We’ve paid for 8,000 trees which will be planted by people across the UK in their local areas as part of the ‘More Trees, More Good’ campaign.
To see a UK rich in native woods and trees enjoyed and valued by everyone.
Our friends at the Woodland Trust have welcomed the latest government announcement that they are abandoning the plans to dispose of public forests. However, they have stressed that this is only a small step towards saving our Ancient Woodland, our equivalent of the rainforests, and they still need all your support.
During the scrapped consultation process the Woodland Trust launched a campaign to protect England’s ancient forests from further destruction. This campaign is still ongoing as the Trust is seeking permanent law abiding assurances from Government that previous ancient woodland sites which have been re-planted with dense dark conifers will be returned to their former glory.
Please help the Woodland Trust by signing the campaign petition. Every declaration of support could be crucial in saving our nation’s woodland for future generations to enjoy.
On the Woodland Trust website, you can also find out about their ‘More Trees More Good’ scheme, which encourages landowners to plant trees, both to combat climate change and to improve our environment.
Here at Dorset Cereals, we have committed to helping local people plant 8,000 trees across the UK and, to get the ball rolling, last December we planted our very own little copse of 500 trees just down the road from us in Poundbury.
We love nothing more than being outdoors in the fresh air, appreciating our surroundings. If you go down to the woods today, here are some of our favourite things to do there. For lots more inspiration, take a look at the Woodland Trust’s website.
If you have the little ones with you, why not try building a den from fallen branches? With a little bit of imagination, the finished product can be a military bunker, a hideout for fairies or even a medieval knight’s castle!
