The Dorset Cereals factory was designed by a local architect but with considerable input by Leon Krier, an international champion of traditional urban design appointed by the Prince of Wales for his Poundbury project. Whilst the factory exterior is of stunning design, encouraging impressive comments from visitors, the interior has been designed specifically as a cereal factory and fitted out to the highest food processing standards using the best food grade materials and state of the art machinery. The factory is approved by SAI Global against the most rigorous food manufacturing standards available – the British Retail Consortium Global Standard For Food Safety. This is at the heart of all our operations.
Dorset is renowned for its agriculture and beautiful countryside and newly designated World Heritage status for the stunning Jurassic coastline. We are located just seven miles away from the coast in a superb new factory in the acclaimed Poundbury village, just outside the historic county town of Dorchester in Dorset. Poundbury is a mixed urban ‘model’ village development built on Duchy of Cornwall land, a 660 year old estate vested in the Prince of Wales as heir to the throne.

Quality is paramount at Dorset Cereals and starts with our suppliers. We provide each of our carefully selected suppliers with a strict and detailed quality specification for each ingredient covering size, texture, colour, moisture content, microbiological analysis, packaging type and transport requirements. All dried fruit undergoes a thorough washing, sorting, inspection and scanning process. Similarly, nut ingredients are processed by grading, shell detection, scanning and visual inspections.
On arrival at our factory the quality assurance begins with checking samples from each delivery against specification. Ingredient quality checks are carried out throughout processing and particularly prior to blending, where ingredients are thoroughly and totally inspected. Throughout processing, inspection results are recorded and analysed to make certain supplier ingredient specifications are maintained.
A further feature of Dorset Cereals products is that they are packed using Modified Atmosphere Packaging (MAP) with food-fresh nitrogen, to ensure freshness of the product. This feature is particularly important for tropical climates.
As part of our ongoing commitment to quality, we have achieved the EFSIS (European Food Safety and Inspection Service) ’A’ Star certificate for our factory manufacturing standards, the highest achievable food standard.
We make every effort to minimise our impact on the environment. All our electricity is purchased from renewable sources and we recycle all our card and plastic waste. We also generate a small amount of food waste (spillages and similar) and rather than send this to landfill, we give it to local farmers. Living and working in such a beautiful part of Dorset is a constant reminder that we are obligated as a company to look after our environment.
