Today – the ninth day of the ninth month – is Chrysanthemum Day, one of the five sacred festivals of ancient Japan. In Japan, they’ll be creating beautiful displays of these colourful flowers, and even drinking chrysanthemum wine.

This Friday evening, the annual torchlight carnival sets off around the town of Kendal in the Lake District. Around 2,000 people and 100 floats will be lighting up the autumn evening with a torchlit procession through the town.
