Do you make a cereal for people who want to eat less wheat?
Yes, our Tasty, Toasted Spelt, Barley & Oat Flakes recipe makes a great alternative to modern wheat. Spelt's fragile gluten structure makes it more water soluble and therefore easier to digest than modern wheat – though please note that spelt is still a source of gluten!
Where does the sugar come from in your cereals?
Everyone needs a little bit of sugar in their diet. Nearly all the sugar found in our recipes comes from the naturally occurring sugars in the fruit and provides essential fuel for the brain and energy for daily activities. We pride ourselves on the high fruit, nuts and seeds content of our recipes and it’s due to this that we have naturally higher levels of sugar (fruit sugar). However, a very small amount of our recipes actually contain sugar-infused fruit. Our Berries & Cherries Muesli, for example, contains 2.1% "added" sugar, while the remainder is naturally occurring sugars from the fruit. This equates to less than 1g of added sugar per 100g of recipe – and without it the fruit can be quite sharp! Recipes that contain sugar-infused fruit are:
- Fruit, Nuts & Seeds Muesli
- Berries & Cherries Muesli
- Super Cranberry, Cherry & Almond Muesli
- Tasty, Toasted Spelt, Barley & Oat Flakes
- Cranberry, Cherries & Raspberry Naturally Light Flakes
(also found in the flakes) - Figs & Grapes Naturally Light Flakes
(also found in the flakes) - Pomegranates & Cherries Naturally Light Flakes
(also found in the flakes)
Where does the fat come from in your cereals?
The fat in our recipes is “good” fat from the delicious nuts and seeds we pack into our recipes. Nuts and seeds are high in fibre, rich in a wide range of vitamins and minerals and a good source of protein. They are also an excellent source of monounsaturated fat, which helps reduce cholesterol in the blood. Some of the wholegrain cereals we use - for example, oats and barley - also contain naturally occuring fats and sugars.
Where does the sugar come from in the Chunky Slices?
The majority of the sugar declared is “natural sugar” inherent in the fruit. We use Agave nectar which is a light, natural way to hold all our delicious fruit, nuts and tasty flakes together. It’s simply the pure filtered juice from the Blue Weber agave cactus, which grows on the hillsides in Mexico. The only sugar that we add is that used to sweeten the cranberries, but we are always looking at other ways of achieving the same delicious taste.
