We love to hear about people taking on new challenges, and this is the most exciting one we’d heard about for a little while. The Munro’s Mariners team is based in Dorset and they’re about to embark on a recreation of the ‘Cockleshell Heroes’ journey up the Gironde in France.

The intrepid team are due to leave for their kayaking expedition on 27th November 2009 and they’re working extremely hard to make sure they’re ready for the challenge. The plan is to kayak 70 miles up the Gironde and Garonne rivers to Bordeaux – retracing the route taken by Operation Frankton during the Second World War.
