Studio Farrows

Studio Farrows easily clinched the top spot because it delivered on all accounts. Not only does it offer travellers exceptional bed and breakfast, but staying there is a holiday in itself. The Studio’s surroundings are perfect for providing inspiration, with a beautiful garden and an orchard by the property. The interior is a creative escape, with interesting objects and pieces of art in every room, including a Ford Anglia in the living room. You can spend afternoons in one of their creative classes or relaxing to a variety of treatments, with a beauty therapist coming right to the B&B. Tracey and Paul, the Studio’s hosts, make fantastic company and you’ll be wondering when next you can come again.

a dog’s best friend

The Coach House

The Coach House is as welcoming to dogs, as they are to their owners. Dog biscuits and a water bowl greet our furry friends, and a hamper of goodies is left in each room to make the dog’s stay that bit more delightful. All the little things have been thought of- an outside tap for washing muddy dogs, a guide to some local walks around the village and farmland, the local vet’s contact number for unforeseen emergencies and of course, big warm fires to rest in front of after a strenuous day. A stay at the Coach House makes a wonderful break for pet and owner.

Huntstile Organic Farm

Having a breakfast at Huntstile Organic Farm is a delightful occasion. Every ingredient has been carefully selected to bring you the most delicious start to the day. John and Lizzie Ridout, owners of Huntstile, grow a variety of organic vegetables, fruit and medicinal herbs; honey comes from their own bees, eggs from their hens, homemade jams from their own soft fruit, the bread is home-baked and sausages and bacon from pigs reared in the green fields behind the main building. Everything is lovingly put together to give you deliciously tasty recipes to be enjoyed from the comfort of their farm.

quirky character

40 Winks

A stay at 40 Winks is probably going to be quite different to any stay you might have had elsewhere. It is completely original- nobody else could think up mannequin hands in the fruit bowl, a Henry VIII doll in the fireplace, religious iconography, a fantastic collection of shoes and beautiful Asian art carefully placed throughout the house. Although small, with only two rooms, it oozes with creativity and surprise, nothing is as you expect it; the delight factor is enormous and will have you smiling with every corner you explore.

Nantwen

Staying at Nantwen feels like you have been wrapped up in a big warm blanket and been given the most delicious cup of hot chocolate to enjoy. Jemma and Daniel make you welcome even before you set off to Nantwen- giving you a few suggestions of exciting things to do en route to the B&B. On arrival you are greeted with a generous bag of goodies, including some freshly-baked home-made bread. There are plenty of lovely books in the cottage, a guitar (yes you can play it!) and you don’t have to go out – you can order food in via Jemma; you can even do music courses here in the summer. Jemma’s enthusiasm and excitement to make your stay the best it can is infectious and you will be struggling to leave once it is time to go home again.
